Margarita Drago
Margarita Drago is an Argentine national who has been residing in the United States since her release from prison in 1980.
As a former political prisoner, she has represented Argentina at conferences held in the United States, Mexico, Peru, and France. She has published articles in newspapers as well as in literary, educational, and human rights journals. She has worked in the field of education since 1986, having taught at the preschool, primary, secondary, and adult education levels; since 1995, she has served as a professor of Spanish language, literature, and bilingual education at York College, part of the City University of New York. She currently serves as Vice-President of the Latino Artists Round Table (LART)—a non-profit cultural organization founded in 1999—a project dedicated to resisting the hegemony of the corporate culture market. She has played an active role in organizing LART’s congresses, conferences, and literary gatherings, and has also represented the organization at readings, presentations, and talks held at various cultural centers and universities. She is the author of Sor María de Jesús Tomelín, concepcionista poblana: la construcción fallida de una santa (her doctoral dissertation)—an unpublished work from which several chapters have been published. Excerpts from her work *Fragmentos de la memoria* have appeared in various anthologies and literary journals.
