Marta Veneranda, apocryphal creator of Marta Veneranda's Forbidden Stories (Casa de las Americas Award 1997), decides to interrupt the project she is immersed in to listen to Lazara Alcantara Bautis' confessions and publish them as a novel, after becoming captivated by the complexity of this woman's life circumstances, born in Argentina and raised between Cuba and New York, and by her tenacity to keep seeking solutions when these situations seem insoluble. Behind the sometimes parodic tone, and the frequent use of humor to veil realities whose confrontation would be too painful without this subterfuge, Rosas de Abolengo is an ode to that heroism.
