Mario Picayo was born in Cuba. As a child, he and his family moved to Puerto Rico and later to the Virgin Islands of the United States. He is the author of many fiction and nonfiction titles about Caribbean nature, culture, history and traditions. He lives between St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and upstate New York.
