Fragmentos de la memoria: Recuerdos de una experiencia carcelaria (1975-1980) by Margarita Drago compiles the memories of an Argentine political prisoner from 1975 to 1980. A teacher, arrested at home and accused of political crimes, is transferred to the Women's Detention Center in Rosario. Terrified, she will witness and be a victim of multiple interrogations, tortures, and rapes. But there, in the basement, where she lives with other companions, she will set up a printing press using cigarette packs, and neither force nor hope will abandon her. Her most intimate places will be safe havens and secret spaces to store study materials and prison reports. Misfortune after misfortune, she will feel the terror and the cold of machine guns. She will hear the sound of soldiers' boots and the barking of police dogs just a few inches from her. Her family visits, increasingly scarce, will be almost a memory when she is transferred to Villa Devoto Prison. For almost five years, she saw, behind bars and doors, the transfers of companions to clandestine prisons, learned of the manipulations of the priest who, protected by the sacrament of confession, denounced many women who ended up murdered, and experienced the frictions of coexistence and political differences that they were unable to resolve. Finally, one day, they walled her up.
